This strip exemplifies the reason I love Octopus Pie. The characters are more solid than the ones populating 99% of Webcomics. They never feel like fanservice, or author avatars, or based on one single trait. And their relationships work and feel realistic.
Idk. Faye is kind of annoying in QC, and I while I am a pretty diehard fan of QC, the characters in this are amazing. Martin feels a little flat as a main character for me. The dynamic just isn't as good as here.
Studies suggest human brains have a period between 13 to 25 where they devalue the values and advice they get from parents and prioritize ideas from new sources. So *if* you’re parents tell you to date or marry a nice and smart person, you ignore that except perhaps to look for something different. Then a fairly weighted approach can set in after 25, when one is not neurologically weighted towards the different. For many, nice and smart can then make a come back.

Also the dialog is funny. And true.
