This apartment was loosely based on a place I lived during college - bunk bed against an exposed brick wall, baby - plus half a dozen way worse apartments I saw in Manhattan over the years. The shower in the kitchen thing is unfortunately very real.

The silent, glowering roommate is a real feature of apartments like these. I should know; I frequently am that roommate.
