This one got a mild meme treatment - what's more relatable than failing to exercise, despite buying all the shit necessary to do so? I was very bad at running when I was a kid, and my gym teachers had no time for me. I wish someone had explained to me that I was exerting all of my energy in the initial sprint, that I could conserve that if I really tried. Also, maybe, that I'd need to actually practice running more than once a year to be any good at it.

The thing that finally turned me around was Couch to 5k, the standard for beginner running. I still can't run without music so I'd say that was a big factor as well. Thanks Ellie Goulding!

  1. Haha, it's true, the first couple times are brutal. I'm not a runner, but it's the same thing for hiking/biking/swimming

  2. Couch to 5k is amazing. Have been mostly powerwalking these days, but once my knees feel stronger, I'm gonna try and climb that hill again.

  3. I miss the days of running with an iPod mini/shuffle. Having music on your phone is convenient, but awkward for exercise. I also feel like there is a decade of late 2000s/early 2010s
music that's lost to time with the switch to streaming platforms, but that's a separate thing.

  4. That’s a really cozy first page settling into sleek and smooth new exercise accessories before the painful reality of physical activity sets in.
