Folks, it's an exciting day! First off I'd like to announce that I'm officially dedicating my entire work week to Octopus Pie. That means more time spent on the comic, site maintenance, and merch shipping. I'm overjoyed to consider this my job. Which is not to say it will permanently be my job -- the ultimate decision on that is with you folks.

But to celebrate my newfound optimism, I am buying you all a drink! Or rather, a drink's worth of free shipping. For the next week you can score free domestic (US & Canada) shipping on any T-shirt, book or tote bag, or a hot discount on international shipping.

I'd also like to point out that I'm now selling original thumbnails of strips, starting with the current storyline. These are the concept drawings I do in my Moleskine to lay out each page before I draw them digitally. Each one comes with a same-size print of the finished comic, suitable for all kinds of framing. I'm starting the bidding at 30 bucks a pop - just click a link under the comic you'd like to buy! These will ultimately be archived for all to view.

And finally, I'd like to direct your attention towards the much-loved Birdvana storyline, which I've recently found time to remaster to my liking. I hope the changes please you.

I'm home and well! And about to catch up on a lot of sleep.

Not much news today, but a humorous observation: While lots of you are buying the mug 2-packs, an overwhelming number of individual mug orders are for the Eve one. Could it be that Eve fans like drinking in solitude? ;)

I hate to miss an update, but the weekend in Portland was quite hectic and I did not have time to do a new comic. The good news is I had an amazing time at Stumptown selling books and meeting lots of you nice readers! Thanks to everyone who came by and were super nice.

Great conventions always have a way of energizing me for the future. I can't wait to get back to drawing. See you Wednesday!

So begins a new storyline! I'm trying a slightly chunkier inking style, with larger lettering, for this one. Hoping to up the graphic appeal a bit. Would love to hear thoughts.

Jackie is giving me a much-needed day to set things up at my new office space and prepare for some ambitious OP-related projects. Great things are happening soon, and I couldn't be more excited.

4/4/08 - Once in a while I get a very nice letter from a reader in the mail. As much as I enjoy getting e-mails, there's something wonderful about seeing your readers' handwriting and interacting with them in the physical world.

So for the month of April, you can send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and I will send you a sticker! (Not the Organix sticker - it's a new one!) Like so:

A stamped envelope is all that's required, but feel free to include anything you want, as long as it can be mailed safely. (Hint: thick, non-paper objects like macaroni need to be postmarked as non-machinable.)

3/19/08 - I've created a little music and doodle blog on Tumblr for all the tunes I listen to and the doodles I draw. If you'd like to see the daily stream of crap that inspires this comic, check it out!

The super awesome Colleen Venable, who hosted a terrific webcomics panel at SPLAT! last weekend, wrote a review for the Octopus Pie book on GoodReads.com. I encourage you to write a review of your own, if you've read the book!

3/10/08 - Spring is almost here, and to celebrate I'm dropping a few seasonal store items! First up is a spring-themed shirt on my favorite AA color, kelly green. Warning: It will not protect you from rain.

Wow guys, thanks for all the nice, supportive e-mails about my last post. I will get back to all of you in time. But for now, dang. I'm pretty floored.

2/11/08 - Wow, today's comic sure went up early. This is no mistake - it's an attempt on my part to balance the comic with my life a little better. If I might rap for a sec..

Since the comic started last spring, its growth has been an incredible thing to watch. Especially considering all promotion for the comic has been strictly word of mouth. No ads, no campaigns - aside from the Street Team - this is some grassroots underground comics shit right here. I know I butter you guys up on occasion, but you really are some fantastic, supportive readers - and the site is big because you're here. I'm grateful for that every day.

The thing that's been on my mind lately is that the comic could, in time, take the place of a job for me. I work full-time in TV animation. It's fun work, but I do it to pay the bills. Spending the majority of my time on a personal project I love is a no-brainer.

The fact is that Octopus Pie currently takes up a lot of my spare time. Far more than any hobby. It's essentially a 2nd full-time job for me. As such, balancing a full-time job AND a full-time webcomic is, in the long run, unrealistic. It's come down to the fact that I have neither the time nor the energy for it.

That's why, come summertime when my job ends, I'm going to take a risk and do the comic exclusively. Take charge and be my own boss. I feel as if it's as good a time as any.

I should make it clear that nothing is changing for now. Updates will continue and I won't be soliciting for your charity or anything. But I will be making a concerted effort to generate more income from the comic. Largely by finding out what you readers like and what I can offer you. So for now, your honest feedback is appreciated.

Mostly, I want to put the idea in your heads, and let you know where I stand with this. My full time and attention toward this comic would be pretty neat, right? :)

We'll see what happens.

1/30/08 - A lot of you were missing the Wordpress comment form, so I made a little comment board for the site. I usually hate these kind of boards, but I feel like OP's readers are capable of using it properly. Prove me right, guys.

Some of you RSS subscribers may have noticed a lag over the past few days. We were experiencing some server difficulties - but everything's in order now! Back to comics.

#101 - Do It Later A few things. There's no longer a commenting system with each post, so if you're pining for by-the-minute fan commentary you can always go back to the old forum on Dumbrella. I know it's NOT THE SAME but we have to make due, people!!

I got lots of very kind e-mails about the RSS feed. Thank you so much for your support, guys! For now I am using a very basic feed until I've got time for more tinkering, but I'll be in touch with a few of you soon to figure out further possibilities. For now, all of you RSS subscribers should update your feed, as the Wordpress-generated one will no longer work.

More soon! Many of the missing pages will be rebuilt within the next couple of days.
