F.A.Q.
I've compiled a list of questions I hear very often. Please read through this F.A.Q. before e-mailing me. I love your letters, but I'd prefer to give the best answer once instead of many half-assed times.
Q: What software do you use to draw the comic?
A: The comic is drawn in e-Frontier's Manga Studio Debut from start to finish. It is exported to and resized in Photoshop.
Q: How do I use Manga Studio?
A: There are many tutorials on how to use Manga Studio. A quick search on Google comes up with some good ones. They know way better than I do, folks. I use Manga Studio very much like one would use Photoshop - with layers, pen tools, and text. The only special feature I use in Manga Studio is the toning tool.
While I'm on the subject I'd like to remind you all that Manga Studio is not the end-all solution to making comics. It's a lightweight, useful tool, but also a bit clunky to learn and not everyone will like it. We all do comics our own way. I consider my system relatively strange and it probably won't work for many people.
Q: How did you make those YouTube drawing videos?
A: I recorded them with a program called Snapz X Pro for Mac. I sped the videos up and added music in Quicktime Pro.
Q: How do you record your live stream?
A: I use a program called CamTwist on Mac to record my desktop. I then broadcast it on uStream.tv. Easy as pie.
Q: What is your art background?
A: I have a BFA in traditional animation from the School of Visual Arts in New York. I graduated in 2006 and worked primarily in TV animation before focusing on the comic.
Q: Are the stories in the comic based on your life?
A: None of the stories are true, but most themes and elements of the stories are based on reality. All characters exhibit traits that are mine, or of people I've known. Short answer: yes Eve is me.
Q: Is Octopus Pie your job?
A: As of April 2008 it is my primary source of income. It is not a lot of income, but I love it. Psst, here is my store. ;)
