#604 + 605 – going in

"Going in" was fake phenom among my friends that we joked about inventing. It was so funny to us. We were so funny. It's amazing how fertile with ideas a tight group can seem at a particular time. I saw my friends a lot then, when we lived in the same city and weren't too tired to hang out at each other's houses all the time. We were all at a place in our lives where we thrived on each other's company. Any small event was an excuse for a party, justification for a long, late-night subway ride home. Excess could not hurt us. We never tired. I wrote Eve as a little bit stupid and inattentive in this one, sex-obsessed as she is, and I liked it as a new path. She becomes a more pleasure-seeking creature in the 2nd half of the series.

  1. Is there any way for me to see original publishing date on your comics? This replay is my first time reading OP and I'd be interested to see original publish dates so I could have a better idea of the cultural context in which you were writing.

    1. Click on the text underneath today's date (in this case, "42 – The Grey Lady"), and you'll go back to the original date for the start of whatever story arc we're on.

      That's probably the easiest way

  2. Isn't that just a pot luck?

    1. That's the joke, right? I thought it was a riff on breathless articles about how millennials have invented something that's actually a very common thing among all generations.

Like how "millennial have invented apps that let you rent books!" (a library) "ride sharing apps have invented a large van that transports many people!" (a bus)

  3. Yes, I was going to parties like that as of 1960 and frequently thereafter. One's parents called it 'pot luck'. Some of them lasted three or four days. Some of them turned into massive psychodramas that warped people's lives forever. Them were the days…. I wonder where those people are now. I wonder, I wonder, I wonder, but I re-heally don't wa-ant to know.

  4. I can't decide whether or not the hyphen in the first panel is in the right place.

  5. clark's description of having friends over is over thought and over wrought in all the ways that made me furious in college and have only made me madder as the years have rolled by, lmao. the impulse to dig into everything on a ~cultural~ level is the worse impulse us millennials have indulged in. i blame the internet.
