#582 – definitely not

As a teenager I paid 25 cents for the Met. I heard they recently changed their policy so that bridge-and-tunnelers have to pay full price. Now that I'm an Old Adult I think that's bullshit, and museums of such import should be free. OK that's all for today.

  1. From the Met's web site:

"New York State residents and NY, NJ, CT students, the amount you pay is up to you.

Suggested Admission: For New York State residents and New York, New Jersey and Connecticut students, the amount you pay is up to you. These tickets may be purchased at a Museum admissions desk with a valid ID. Suggested admission tickets include exhibitions as well as same-day entry to all three Met locations.
    General Admission

General admission is $25 for adults; $17 for seniors; $12 for students; and free for Members, Patrons, and children under 12. General admission tickets include exhibitions and are valid for three consecutive days at The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters. "

I agree that $25 is bullshit.

  2. Agreed. The Met, especially, is not struggling. Also they are classified as a tax-exempt non-profit, and NYC provides about 10% of their funds.

  3. So used to National Gallery of Art being free forever that this confuses me. Well, not really, I'm a paid member of the SAM.
