  1. Is that a Bomer? Gran, you card! 😀

    1. … Homer?

        1. ….what….in the….holy….WHAT?!?!

        2. Jesus, that's frightening.

    2. I saw them as 'Bomer', Big Bird, mini-Eve, and Dumbledore (the Potter Puppet Pals version)

  2. …Is this going to be an elaborate scheme on Olly's part to have Eve do more slave labor for him?

  3. Interesting comic, have a good night.

  4. Working at a near-death restaurant, and seeing her quiet reflection in the last panel, I sense a possible sub-plot that she might be forced to face: How much sacrifice is worth keeping your employment alive. To "pick up the slack" is a lot harder than it sounds, and can completely devour your life if you become that "someone", which Ning usually does, she being the only other worker really attached to the place.

    1. I dunno, I would argue that Julie's more attached to the place than Eve is. I mean, if she wasn't she probably wouldn't have stayed. Maybe Eve will just let it go after all?

  5. This is so sad. At the same time it's so well done. I have to go cheer myself up. I'm going to go read once more the previous comic, where everything was loony and weird and fun and Hanna looked as if she was walking across the Negev desert or the surface of Arrakis.

  6. Nothing like the risk of losing your job to actually get up off ones butt and go find a better one – that and actually losing your job. Finger puppets.

  7. Yup, when the line graph has smouldering wreckage on it, you can tell that reading it backwards won't help. http://www.octopuspie.com/2007-09-19/048-in-the-g

  8. These numbers are shopped. I can tell from the decimals, and because I've seen a lot of numbers in my time.

    1. Well played – I salute the cut of your meme.

  9. I love your depiction of the smoldering ruin of Olly's finances. Sucks for everyone though – not just Julie…

    1. I've heard of a market Crash, but this is ridiculous!

  10. …are the low-end numbers on that graph smoking? Are they not numbers but rather rubble?

    Awesome.

  11. This is happening to at the university I work on. Their are firing people like crazy, and if that doesn't happend to you is not that good as it looks, since you will be also doing the job of those who got fired.
At this point, I don't know what is better… keep my horrible job and always fear that I could got fired too, or be already fired. I think I will be wait to see how this story line ends…

  12. what doe's it say about me that my first thought was ollie was showing eve a map of the fellowships route from hobbiton to mount doom?

  13. huh… from the front it looks like eve's hair is down, but from the back it looks like pigtails…

  14. Did Eve's hair change from pig-tailed to not-pig-tailed?

    1. hah whoops. I ought to fix that.

    2. Actually, I thought she was so distraught in Panel 4 that her hair-ties exploded.

  15. I don’t know about changing it. It seems to add to the heat of the moment. the loss of pony tail holders between panels seems to emphasize things.

  16. Good work. I'm glad the set up for this storyline isn't "there's an easy solution, just don't be greedy."

  17. Is it odd that I thought the numbers stank, and the stench was so distinct it could not be faked?

    1. No more odd than Eve's ability to make voices come out of her fingers.

  18. no eve don't do it!!!
    don't sell your finger puppets

  19. Anyone notice how similar Ollie's chart and the one on xkcd are?

Not that there's any relation.. just pointing out the uncanny coincidence.

  20. I had the WEIRDEST dream where Octopus Pie became a cartoon on Nickelodeon. Still an Octopus Pie cartoon would be cool.

    Sorry this comment was random.

  21. Eve, don't you DARE give up your salary to keep Julie! Or if you do, go back to the coffeehouse!

  22. Capitalism doesn't 'help' you.
Capitalism only pretends to be your friend -_-

  23. So that's why Olly was so nice on that ski trip.

    1. Aaaaah, DAMN, you're right. ;n;
