There Are No Stars In Brooklyn PRE-SALE

I’m pleased as punch to announce that Octopus Pie: There Are No Stars in Brooklyn, a 272-page treasury to be published by Villard Books on June 22nd, is now available for pre-order!

there are no stars in brooklyn

What’s in it?

This book contain the first 2 years of OP strips, from 2007 to the end of 2008 – a combination of all 3 self-published volumes in ONE. Which makes it a stellar deal. There’s also a completely new 5-page story, entitled “Kids”, that’s never been seen before.

Where should I buy it?

I’m offering the book for sale on this site. If you want your book signed or personalized, this is the only place to get it. All pre-ordered books are signed by me for FREE! You’ll also get 2 super exclusive 1″ mystery buttons with every order. Buying it from me directly ensures a portion of the sale goes to me.

You can also order it from any of these retailers:

Barnes and Noble
Amazon
Borders
Powells
IndieBound
Random House

Many online retailers are offering pre-sale discounts, which may be a good option if you’re strapped for cash or a member at these stores.

Can I be straight with you for a moment?

This is a crucial time in the success of Octopus Pie. The sales of this book will do a lot to determine whether or not future books can be made. If you love the comic, but have never ordered OP merch before, this is a fantastic way to show your support. Plus you’ll be getting an awesome signed book out of it!

Thanks always for your support! If you have any questions about the book, feel free to reply to this post and I’ll try to answer them.

Don't forget to encourage you Friendly Local Comic Book Store (FLCBS) to stock the book!

"The sales of this book will do a lot to determine whether or not future books can be made."

Does any particular way of purchasing do *more* to help future books be made? Does buying straight from you ensure you make more money, ensuring more books, or would more orders from Amazon and other major retailers be more helpful to you in some weird corporate ordering priority way?

That's a very good question, and kind of tricky as well.

In the short run, I benefit greatly from direct sales. They do indeed count towards my overall sales figures, since I'm ordering the books from the distributor to resell.

On the other hand, having (for example) a high Amazon sales rank looks very good in the long run. When retailers see lots of orders, they're inclined to order even more books. And when the retailers are happy, so is my publisher. :)

Ultimately, any order is a good one, and I leave it up to you to decide which is best. I really appreciate that you've given this some consideration!

Um, what's the difference between the Standard and Special?

    Bought and hurray!

  5. Kim says:

I wasn't sure if I could spare $16+shipping for it, so I went back through and was sold by the third comic. So I did pre-order it. Yay. Love this. Thanks for being awesome.

Aw, this is huge! Congrats Meredith!

  7. Evan says:

This *might* be a dumb question, but just to be sure – this book covers all the canon story arcs up through "Interview", correct? I'm not quite sure where the 2-year cutoff is, I'm just going by the descriptions on the self-published volumes.

    Want. WANT.

  9. Lauren says:

WOOT! I put off ordering the individual volumes because you mentioned so long ago that you were working on a big compilation. ok, PRE-ORDER, AWAY!!!! :D

  10. MacSimon says:

Aww, i really want this one, but i don't know if i'll be able to buy it. Never bought anything on the Internet because of the shipping, i live in south america and the shipping taxes are kind of high :/

    I'll see what i can do : D

This looks extremely tempting, but I'm a little hesitant because I already have the signed versions of the 2nd and 3rd books. Besides obviously having the chapters from the first book as well, what are the advantages of getting this one?

    P.S.

Part of the reason I'm hesitant is because my girlfriend got me those books for Christmas, and I'd kind of feel like a jerk for buying something that replaces them. >_<

  12. Wow, I will have to get this book, love the cover! And for some reason Hanna's outfit screams Brent Sienna ;)

  13. jeremythedog says:

will you have these books at Stumptown in april?

  14. Damien Walder says:

Dang – can we also pre-order from you at TCAF? Will bring my comic-spendy friendy.

  15. Gin says:

Hi Mer, I can't afford the book + $8 shipping but I figure since it's $10 bucks at Amazon + free shipping I'll just donate the other $6 bucks to you via paypal. I hope that this way everyone wins! Whee.

  16. Bef says:

D: I wish I could get it, but its an extra $17 shipping to get the book ;_; I wanted to order the special edition!

  17. Bef says:

All the way in England :D long ways away

  18. Hi, Meredith!

I've just discovered this little gem of yours that is "Octopus Pie" and I wonder if this TPB by Villard has got some extra stuff like a foreword or something. And I loved the covers and the chapter vignettes of all the 3 self-published volumes – will the Villard TPB have this material too?

    * sorry, my English is kinda lame
